Detroit Lions vs. New England Patriots: First half open thread
Posted by: laiyongcai92 - Yesterday, 02:04 AM - Forum: Abgeschmeckt - No Replies

The Detroit Lions have been given a gift from the football gods. Both the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings—fairly heavy favorites in Week 3—lost their games earlier on Sunday. Unfortunately Marvin Jones Jr Jersey , the Cardinals couldn’t complete the trifecta, blowing a 14-point lead to the Chicago Bears in the late games.Either way, the Lions have a golden opportunity to completely change the narrative of the 2018 season in one night. A win over the Patriots, however improbable as it may seem, would put the Lions just a game away from first place in the NFC North, and a half game behind both the Packers and Vikings. But in order to pull of such an upset the Lions need to look a lot different than they have in the previous two weeks. In both games Authentic Graham Glasgow Jersey , the Lions fell behind by three scores, and only last week in San Francisco were they able to work their way back into the game. The defense has looked bad, the offense inconsistent. But Sunday night is a new day, and as we saw all day on Sunday, teams can look drastically different week-to-week. So join us as the Lions try to pull of the upset and notch their first win of the season.2018 NFL Week 1 power rankings: Detroit Lions enter season with doubters galore Maybe it was the lackluster preseason. Maybe it’s suspicion of a first-time head coach coming from the Patriots tree. Maybe it’s the tough division or the media’s natural dismissiveness for the Lions. Or maybe it’s legit concern with an unbalanced roster.Whatever the reason, faith in the 2018 Detroit Lions is clearly at a low entering the season Youth Sam Martin Jersey , both locally and nationally. This is abundantly clear when looking through all of the national publications as they release their initial Power Rankings for Week 1 of the NFL. Take a look:Washington Post: 18th (4th in NFC North)CBS Sports: 19th (3rd in NFC North)NFL.com: 18th (4th in NFC North)SB Nation: 20th (4th in NFC North)Bleacher Report: 24th (4th in NFC North)Yahoo Sports: 19th (3rd in NFC North)As you can see, the Lions are a consensus bottom-half team from all six publications. In fact, it’s pretty interesting to see them listed between 18-20 in every list but one. There seems to be a very clear consensus that this is a below average team headed for something like a 7-9 season. Also, after trading for Khalil Mack, the Chicago Bears have jumped the Lions in every power ranking but one. It’s a grim look at the perception of the division, but you have to wonder if there’s any validity to it. Wait http://www.lionsauthorizedshops.com/auth...lay-jersey , what am I saying? #WeOwnTheBearsIf there’s something optimisitc to take away from these power rankings, it’s this: Week 1 looks pretty good. The New York Jets are entering the season as one of the worst teams in the league, according to... well, just about everyone:Washington Post: 29thCBS Sports: 31stNFL.com: 29thSB Nation: 27thBleacher Report: 29thYahoo Sports: 29thSo if the Lions don’t open the season with a win... on their home field... in front of a pumped-up “Monday Night Football” crowd, then confidence will be even lower entering Week 2. Even if they win, though Tavon Wilson Jersey , there are going to still be a bunch of doubters.

Lions-49ers Eli Harold trade: What it means for Detroit’s roster
Posted by: laiyongcai92 - Yesterday, 01:50 AM - Forum: Abgeschmeckt - No Replies

The Detroit Lions made a pretty significant move on Thursday Marvin Jones Jr Jersey , trading for 49ers linebacker Eli Harold. With just over two weeks left to solidify their roster, the move has drastically changed the landscape of the Lions’ depth chart. While Harold is not necessarily a lock to make the final roster, considering he was a potential starter in San Francisco, it’s fair to assume he’ll immediately jump ahead of a few players and bump some defenders into the roster bubble or off the roster completely. EdgeLet’s start with the edge, since Harold’s versatility there will likely make him an asset where the Lions may be the weakest. Though I doubt Devon Kennard’s starting job is in danger, Harold could very well be the team’s Kennard 2.0. That could spell trouble for a couple of edge guys in the rotation. Namely, both 2017 undrafted free agents Jeremiah Valoaga and Alex Barrett. Valoaga has been a consensus “IN” for our weekly Bubble Watch, but Barrett’s spot has been much more uncertain. Adding a guy like Harold could spell doom for Barrett, but the young defender does still have practice squad eligibility. LinebackerHarold doesn’t necessarily bring the solid coverage the Lions may be seeking from this unit, so it’s unlikely that Jalen Reeves-Maybin or Miles Killebrew will be affected much by this move. I think Christian Jones and Jonathan Freeny are also likely still safe. However, this makes it a lot more unlikely for an underdog like Chad Meredith Authentic Graham Glasgow Jersey , Trevor Bates or Freddie Bishop to make the 53. At 6-foot-3, 257 pounds Harold is built almost exactly like these three players, and we’ve seen each play a little on the edge, as well. Bishop, specifically, was just climbing the ranks after some impressive performances in training camp and the preseason, but this move could really hurt his chances to make the roster. Bishop, too, has practice squad eligibility, so he could still stick around if he doesn’t make the 53.Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay returns to practice, Taylor Decker absent It may be a little too early to count out Darius Slay from Sunday’s contest with the New England Patriots. The Detroit Lions’ All-Pro cornerback returned to practice on Friday after missing the two previous sessions with a concussion. Slay appeared to go through all of the drills during the open portion of practice (first 15 minutes or so) Youth Sam Martin Jersey , but he was sporting a red no-contact jersey:To clear the concussion protocol and be eligible to play for Sunday’s game against the Patriots, Slay must be a full participant in a practice then clear further medical tests to make sure he’s not suffering from any symptoms after practice. It’s unclear if the no-contact jersey prevents this from being a “full participation” day of practice from Slay, but we’ll know when Friday’s injury report comes out around 4 p.m. ET.In less positive news, Lions left tackle Taylor Decker was missing from practice according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Decker was not previously listed on the injury report all week and was available to the media after Thursday’s practice. At this point, it’s not clear whether Decker suffered an injury or was absent for another reason. If he is unable to go, it will be interesting to see who the Lions put at left tackle. Backup tackle Andrew Donnal remains out of practice, so the Lions would likely have to rely on rookie fifth-round pick Tyrell Crosby. The Lions may also consider promoting Jamil Demby from the practice squad, if necessary.

4 things we learned in the Detroit Lions loss to the San Francisco 49ers
Posted by: laiyongcai92 - Yesterday, 01:22 AM - Forum: Abgeschmeckt - No Replies

The Detroit Lions were able to push it to the very end but they inevitably fell short to the San Francisco 49ers. Detroit drops to 0-2 with a 30-27 loss and their playoff hopes already seem in doubt. Here a few things we learned in a heartbreaking lossBig Grinetroit needs outside help at cornerThe Lions benched cornerback Nevin Lawson after he had a terrible performance against the New York Jets last week. 2017 second-round pick Teez Tabor took many of his snaps but was even worse than his predecessor. Tabor got embarrassed by rookie receiver Dante Pettis early on for a huge gain and was totally lost on a second quarter touchdown. He got beat all day by everyone from Pettis to fullback Kyle Juszczyk. If neither Tabor nor Lawson can hold their own at CB2 Youth Frank Ragnow Jersey , then Detroit will need to look at either the free agent or trade markets to find help.Matthew Stafford may have lost some of his magicDetroit’s usually reliable Matthew Stafford is off to a shocking start to the season. While this week’s game against the 49ers was not as bad as his horrid performance against the Jets last week, it is still reason for concern. Stafford seemed to miss passes that he usually nails. His downfield accuracy was awful, missing two passes to Marvin Jones that may have been touchdowns. The quarterback missed on a lot of shorter passes as well and his ball placement was everywhere. His pocket presence was an issue last week and that seems to have carried over to Week 2 when he rolled out of the pocket and into a strip sack in the first half. The Lions usually reliable superstar quarterback is having a terrible 2018 so far and Detroit will need to alleviate whatever is wrong. The run defense needs helpFor the second straight week the Lions gave up a touchdown run of over 60 yards when Matt Breida rumbled down field for a 67-yarder in the third quarter. The defensive front has no gap integrity and the linebackers do not seem to know what angle they should take when trying to play the run from the second level. Teams will be able to run over this defense all season if nothing changes. Detroit needs to find a fix soon if the Lions are to get into the win column in the near future. The pass rush existsDetroit’s lack of a pass rush was one of the biggest stories all offseason and it haunted them in the season opener last week. Something seemed to have changed this week, though. The Lions pass rush had a real effect on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and they racked up 6 sacks. Linebackers Jarrad Davis, Christian Jones, Devon Kennard and Eli Harold all got in on the action as the Lions rush looked better than it has in a very long time. While the lack of quality personnel in the front-seven will always be an issue, it looks like the Lions may have creative coaching that can manage to make the most of it.Thursday open thread: Which Packers player—outside of Aaron Rodgers—scares you the most? The Green Bay Packers have been accused by many—including their own fans—of being a one-man team. Aaron Rodgers has been the face of that franchise for years now, and so goes Rodgers, as do the Packers. When he’s on Youth Ziggy Ansah Jersey , the Packers are as dangerous as any other team in the NFL. We he’s off or injured, the Packers aren’t just mortal, they’re bad. His supporting cast has always seemed lackluster, which is likely why Rodgers only has a single championship to his name. But this year, the Packers went out and found themselves a new general manager, and although they’re off to just a modest 2-1-1 start, many believe there’s something different about this Packers team. There may be some more dangerous players on both sides of the ball that opposing coaches will have to account for. So today’s Question of the Day is:Which Packers player, outside of Aaron Rodgers, scares you most for?My answer: Aaron Jones. It’s no secret that the Detroit Lions’ run defense has been an absolute disaster thus far. They’ve made Matt Breida and Isaiah Crowell look like elite backs and Ezekiel Elliott look like... well Color Rush Graham Glasgow Jersey , Ezekiel Elliott. Jones is exactly the type of back Detroit has been vulnerable to: a speedy, shifty guy that can test the edges of the defense. He’s had a modest start to the season after serving a two-game suspension. In Weeks 3 and 4, he combined for 17 carries, 107 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Packers like to spread their distribution in the backfield, but Jones’ 6.3 yards per carry may be enough to warrant more touches over Jamaal Williams (3.4 YPC) and Ty Montgomery (4.5 YPC). Rodgers is always a scary player to go up against, but he may not even have to be himself on Sunday if the Lions can’t stop Jones.Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage

A look at what’s happening around the majors today:

The Astros aim for their 12th straight victory http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...ams-jersey , which would tie for the longest winning streak in franchise history set in 1999 and duplicated in 2004. Fresh off a 10-0 road trip to Texas, Oakland and Kansas City in which they outscored opponents 74-35, the World Series champions return to Minute Maid Park to take on Tampa Bay. Houston starter Gerrit Cole (8-1, 2.40 ERA) leads the AL with 130 strikeouts; the Rays will start a reliever for the third straight game, with Ryne Stanek opening up.

The New York Yankees and Washington meet for a doubleheader – sort of – at Nationals Park. The teams were tied at 2 in the sixth inning on May 15 when their game was stopped because of rain, and they were postponed the next night. So the Yanks and Nats will pick up in the sixth, with both clubs expected to start out with relievers. Sonny Gray will start Game 2 for the New York against rookie Erick Fedde.

Bartolo Colon goes for his 244th career win, which would break a tie with Hall of Famer Juan Marichal for most by a pitcher born in the Dominican Republic. The 45-year-old Colon gave up a season-high eight runs in his last outing for Texas, tagged by the Dodgers. Colon has won one of his past five starts going into this game at Kansas City. Ian Kennedy has won just one of his last 27 home starts for the Royals.

Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford will go on paternity leave for the birth of his fourth child and could miss as many as three games. San Francisco returns home from a 10-day road trip to face the Miami Marlins.

Brian Anderson stepped to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning with the game tied, one out and the bases loaded.

The Marlins’ rookie took the situation in stride like a veteran.

Anderson hit a game-ending sacrifice fly to lift the Miami Marlins over the San Francisco Giants 5-4 on Wednesday night.

”In a situation like that Keelan Cole Jersey , the pressure’s not on you, it’s on the pitcher,” Anderson said. ”I tried to stay within myself and get something in the strike zone, something I could elevate.”

J.T. Realmuto had two hits and scored twice for the Marlins, who have won three straight for the first time since winning four in a row April 28-May 1.

Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run home run and Buster Posey had three hits for the Giants, who entered the series winning eight of 10 but have dropped the first three games against last-place Miami and eight of the last nine in the series.

”Yyou can’t take any team lightly,” McCutchen said. ”This is the big leagues and regardless of their record or how many fans are in the stands, you’ve got to be ready to go.”

Reyes Moronta (2-1) allowed the first two hitters to reach in the bottom of the ninth, prompting manager Bruce Bochy to call on Hunter Strickland. Pinch-hitter J.B. Shuck hit a hard grounder down the first-base line, but Posey was able to dive to keep the ball in front of him Marcell Dareus Jersey , preventing the Marlins from scoring.

However, Strickland got himself into a 3-1 count against Anderson with one out. Anderson connected on a flyball to center field caught by Gorkys Hernandez, whose throw home was too late to catch Miguel Rojas.

”He didn’t crush it, but he got it deep enough,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.

It was the Marlins’ third walk-off win of the season.

San Francisco’s Evan Longoria broke a 3-all tie with a hit in the seventh off Tayron Guerrero. It was Longoria’s team-leading 11th go-ahead RBI of the season.

The Marlins responded with a two-out RBI double in the eighth by Justin Bour off Sam Dyson, tying the game at 4.

It was the third time in the game the Marlins trailed but bounced back to draw even.

”We’re doing what we’re hoping, we’re getting the lead,” Bochy said. ”We’re just having a hard time holding it.”

Drew Steckenrider (3-1) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.

Andrew Suarez allowed five hits and two runs in five innings for the Giants, pitching in his hometown in front of a number of friends and family members. He struck out three and walked two.

”I just didn’t really have a feel for a lot of pitches later in the game,” Suarez said. ”I just think with all of the humidity and sweating so much Josh Lambo Jersey , the ball was a little slick. But you have to compete and keep throwing strikes.”

Miami’s Caleb Smith pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs.

He also had two hits at the plate.

”That was pretty fun,” Smith said. ”I’ve been working on it.”

McCutchen’s two-run blast in the first was his seventh of the season.

The Marlins tied the game at 2 on base hits by Cameron Maybin and Lewis Brinson in the fourth.

The teams traded runs in the sixth. Austin Jackson gave the Giants a 3-2 lead before Bour tied it with a base hit.

The retractable roof was open for the 15th time this season, the most in a year since Marlins Park opened in 2012.

Giants: 1B Brandon Belt (appendix) is likely to have a couple rehab starts with the goal of joining the team on the next homestand beginning June 18 instead of playing this weekend in Los Angeles. … RHP Johnny Cueto (left ankle) will have another bullpen session Friday. … RHP Jeff Samardzija (right shoulder) will have a rehab start with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday with a pitch limit of 60-65 pitches.

Giants: RHP Dereck Rodriguez (1-1, 5.25 ERA) will start Thursday’s series finale. Rodriguez, the son of former Marlins catcher and Hall of Famer Pudge Rodriguez, spent a lot of time around the Marlins when his father helped lead them to a World Series title in 2003.

Marlins: RHP Dan Straily (2-2, 4.08) is 4-0 with a 2.43 ERA in five career starts against the Giants.

Ryne Stanek is set for a new role in the Tampa Bay rotation – sort of.
The reliever will likely now start two out of every five games in the Rays‘ ongoing bullpen-day experiment.
Wilson Ramos homered Marquis Haynes Color Rush Jersey , six Tampa Bay relievers combined for a five-hitter and the Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Tuesday night.
With right-handers Chris Archer and Jake Faria on the disabled list, Tampa Bay is using relievers to start three times through the rotation.
Stanek opened the game, striking out three in two perfect innings, and was followed by Austin Pruitt (2 2/3 innings), Jonny Venters (one-third of an inning), Chaz Roe (1 1/3 innings), Jose Alvarado (1 2/3 innings) and Sergio Romo (one inning).
”We won, so it’s a pretty good day,” Stanek said. ”It’s like anything, the more you do something, the more comfortable you’re going to be. It’s definitely starting to become a little more normal. It’s not really coming like a surprise.”
It was Stanek’s fourth start.
”Stanek set the tone,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. ”The big story of the game was the bullpen http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...nez-jersey , how they pieced it together.”
Pruitt (2-3) allowed four hits and a run but picked up the win. Romo allowed the other hit but locked down his second save.
”It’s always fun seeing guys come in behind you and get the job done,” Pruitt said.
Tampa Bay has won three of four following an eight-game skid.
Ramos put the Rays up 2-0 with his two-run drive off Jaime Garcia (2-5) in the third.
Garcia gave up four runs, four hits, four walks and struck out four in five-plus innings. The left-hander is 1-4 in seven road starts, allowing 28 earned runs over 31 1/3 innings.
”I competed and tried to make pitches,” Garcia said. ”There’s a couple of walks there that I’ve got to do a better there.”
Garcia departed after C.J Cron walked and went to third on Willy Adames‘ double to start the sixth. Pinch-hitter Joey Wendle and Mallex Smith both had run-scoring singles off Joe Biagini that made it 4-1.
Toronto had runners on second and third with no outs in the fifth but scored just once on Devon Travis‘ grounder off Pruitt.
”We had a chance to tie it, and then who knows?” Toronto manager John Gibbons said.
The Blue Jays have been held to one run or fewer 11 times.
Blue Jays: 3B Josh Donaldson (left calf tightness) remains day to day. … RHP Marcus Stroman (shoulder) will make a rehab start Wednesday night with Class A Dunedin.
Rays: CF Kevin Kiermaier (right thumb torn ligament) went 2 for 4 with a walk in his first minor league rehab game with Class A Charlotte and hopes to be back June 22. … OF Johnny Field (sore knee) was available off the bench.
The Blue Jays have dropped the first two games in the three-game set and are 73-105 at Tropicana Field. It’s the most losses at any road ballpark since 1998, the Rays’ inaugural season. ”They’ve always held us in check down here,” Gibbons said. ”I don’t care what the roster is, I don’t care what team is here. It’s always kind of been that way.”
Romo reached 10 years of major league service time Monday and was given a postgame celebration by his teammates. ”A pretty awesome day,” Romo said.
Tampa Bay RHP Wilmer Font (0-1) will start another bullpen game Wednesday against Blue Jays LHP J.A. Happ (8-3).

Brett Gardner is back in the New York Yankees’ lineup after missing five games because of soreness in his right knee.
The left fielder was the leadoff hitter for Friday night’s game at Tampa Bay.
”He’s been anxious to get back the last couple of days,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. ”Kind of our igniter http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...ews-jersey , our heartbeat to a degree.”
The Yankees also got good news regarding right-hander Masahiro Tanaka, who went on the 10-day disabled list June 9 with a strain in both his right and left hamstrings.
Tanaka did long toss and threw at 60 feet on level ground Friday, and is set for his first bullpen session Sunday. If things go well, Tanaka would have another mound session Tuesday at the Yankees’ spring training complex in Tampa and take part in a simulated game later in the week.
”Another step along the way,” Boone said. ”He’s progressing well.”
Gardner entered Friday hitting .258 with five homers, 21 RBIs and 42 runs scored in 59 games.
Giancarlo Stanton started in right field with Aaron Judge as the designated hitter.
Jacoby Ellsbury, out all season with a number of injuries including an oblique strain and sore back, still has not resumed baseball activities. The Yankees haven’t completely ruled out Ellsbury playing this season but Boone had ”no clue” when the outfielder might be back.
”We’re trying to get him to the point to where he’s back doing his baseball activities,” Boone said. ”He still to clear some hurdles.”

A look at what’s happening around the majors Wednesday:
The Nationals could use a spark before the July 4 fireworks go off in D.C. Washington is at risk of falling below .500 for the first time since May 2 as it continues a series against Boston at 11 a.m. EDT. The Red Sox thumped the Nationals 11-4 on Tuesday Womens Tom Pyatt Jersey , giving Washington its fourth straight loss and 16th in 21 games to fall to 42-42. That slide has the preseason NL East favorites chasing the Braves and Phillies in the division. Erick Fedde (1-3, 6.00) tries to stop Washington’s skid against Boston left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (9-3, 4.11).
Shohei Ohtani is back from the disabled list, albeit without full use of his electric right arm. The Japanese two-way sensation has been cleared to hit and was in the Angels’ lineup as a designated hitter Tuesday night, but he won’t be pitching anytime soon due to a Grade 2 sprain of his ulnar collateral ligament suffered more than three weeks ago. Ohtani has received stem cell therapy and a platelet-rich plasma injection on his right elbow, and it’s unclear if he’ll be able to return to the mound this year. For now, Los Angeles welcomes him as a hitter. He entered Tuesday batting .289 with a .907 OPS and six homers in 114 at-bats.
Gerrit Cole (9-2) will pitch on regular rest for the Astros after a slight tweak to their rotation. Lance McCullers Jr. was initially scheduled to start at Texas, but Cole will pitch instead. Justin Verlander (9-4) will follow Thursday at home against the White Sox and McCullers goes Friday. Manager A.J. Hinch said the switch keeps Cole and Verlander pitching every fifth day, and provides extra rest for McCullers (9-3) and Charlie Morton (10-2). The reset rotation means likely All-Star selection Verlander is scheduled for the final game before the break. ”This is always going to be the priority Zack Smith Jersey ,” said Hinch, the All-Star manager who then won’t have Verlander available to pitch for the AL team on July 17 in Washington D.C.
Trevor Bauer tries to carry over an outstanding June when the Indians play at Kansas City. Bauer (7-6, 2.45) was 3-3 with a 2.18 ERA last month, striking out 62 batters in 41 1/3 innings. He gets probably his easiest test of the year against the Royals, who scored a major league-low 58 runs in June – the second-lowest output was Tampa Bay at 87.

After slugging their way to wins in the first five games against the Los Angels Angels, the Boston Red Sox needed some strong defense to complete the season sweep.
Jackie Bradley Jr. made a leaping catch at the wall in center to keep the Angels from scoring in the first inning and broke open the game with a two-run homer in the seventh as the Red Sox beat the Angels 4-2 on Thursday night.
”It feels good when you get the results,” Bradley said. ”Both were very pivotal for the game.”
Bradley’s shot to right was the 20th homer the Red Sox hit in six games against Los Angeles, sweeping the season series against the Angels for the first time since they joined the American League as an expansion club in 1961.
Boston outscored Los Angeles 49-12 while taking all six games, which according to the Red Sox is the first six-game season sweep in club history.
The Red Sox have won four straight and six of seven as they head to New York to open three-game series between the rivals on Friday night with first place in the AL East on the line.
Hector Velazquez (6-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief Brandon Manning Jersey , allowing just one hit and striking out three. Craig Kimbrel earned his 24th save with a scoreless ninth inning.
With scheduled starter Steven Wright on the DL, the Red Sox had to shuffle their rotation. Manager Alex Cora said he was pleased to get four innings out of starter Brian Johnson and two more from Velazquez, setting up the bullpen to finish off the Angels.
”We got to where we wanted to get,” Cora said. ”B.J. (Johnson) was outstanding using his fastball, mixing up his breaking ball – very pleased with the way we got six innings out of those guys.”
The Angels have lost six straight, although they were in contention in the last two games at Fenway Park.
”There’s no doubt we hit the ball harder than looking at six hits,” manager Mike Scioscia said. ”We probably squared up five other balls that they made nice plays on. That’s the way it goes sometimes.”
Andrelton Simmons hit a solo homer and Albert Pujols had an RBI single for the Angels, who had a potential rally going in the eighth with runners on first and second with one out but were robbed of another hit when Andrew Benintendi made a leaping catch at the wall that rivaled what Bradley did in the first.
”That was amazing,” Bradley said. ”We were able to make some big plays for our pitchers and get the win.”
Los Angeles was up 1-0 until Devers led off the fifth with his 13th homer http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...wry-jersey , to center off of Jaime Barria (5-4).
Barria was pulled after giving up a one-out walk to J.D. Martinez with one out in the sixth and the score still tied 1-1. Jose Alvarez gave up a double to Mitch Moreland, with Martinez moving to third. Xander Bogaerts was then walked intentionally to load the bases, and Brock Holt drew a walk to drive in Martinez for Boston’s first lead. Alvarez then got Devers to ground into a double play to end the inning.
Barria was charged with two runs on four hits and two walks, striking out two over 5 1/3 innings.
”Jaime was good. He had to work hard to get to that point of the game,” Scioscia said. ”There was one fastball he just left down the heart of the plate and it was down to Devers and he hit it out to center. But I thought he gave us a chance to win, there’s no doubt about that.”
Bradley’s homer, his sixth, in the seventh off of Noe Ramirez pushed Boston’s lead to 4-1.
The Red Sox were busy packing their bags in the locker room after the game and were headed to New York, where the three-game series was scheduled to open Friday. The Red Sox (55-27) hold a slight lead on the Yankees (52-26) http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...ice-jersey , who were off Thursday.
While the series is big, Bradley said the division title is not on the line – yet.
”I think if you win, that takes care of everything. You don’t have to think about anything else,” Bradley said. ”You get that done, I don’t think you’ve got to worry about any other teams.”
Angels: Placed rookie reliever Jake Jewell on the DL with a broken right leg that could cause him to miss the rest of the season. He’s scheduled to have surgery Friday. Jewell was carted off the field at Fenway Park on Wednesday night. … The Angels recalled RHP Eduardo Paredes from Triple-A Salt Lake and added RHP Taylor Cole to the major league roster.
Angels: RHP Felix Pena (0-0, 5.40 ERA) gets his third start of the season and first on the road when the Angels open up a weekend series in Baltimore on Friday.
Red Sox: LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (9-2, 3.86) was on a six-start winning streak before taking the loss Saturday against Seattle. Rodriguez is scheduled to go up against Yankees LHP C.C. Sabathia (4-3, 3.18) in the series opener Friday night.

The stage was set for another dramatic Super Bowl comeback for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
That’s when Brandon Graham delivered one of the few defensive highlights in the most prolific offensive game in NFL history Phillip Gaines Color Rush Jersey , ripping the ball out of Brady’s hands for a fumble that gave the Philadelphia Eagles their first Super Bowl title in franchise history with a 41-33 victory on Sunday night.
”When the fourth quarter came we had to go out there and make a stop,” Graham said. ”As a defense we hadn’t been doing it all game. The offense carried us all the way through. At the end of the day we kept coming.”
Rookie Derek Barnett recovered the loose ball and Eagles fans began celebrating their first title since winning the 1960 NFL championship in what proved to be a surprise ending.
Brady had made the late-game comeback a specialty in winning a record five Super Bowl titles, including last year’s rally from 28-3 down to beat Atlanta in overtime. He also led late game-winning scoring drives to beat the Rams, Carolina and Seattle.
The Eagles showed no sign of slowing Brady down on Sunday as he threw for a playoff-record 505 yards and three touchdowns, carving up the defense at will on a night when the Patriots did not punt once or turn it over until Brady’s late fumble with New England on its 33 with just more than two minutes remaining and poised for a comeback.
That’s when Graham beat Shaq Mason off the line and reached his left hand out for Brady just before he was set to throw. Graham knocked the ball loose.
”I knew I had a one-on-one with the guard,” Graham said. ”I knew he likes to be aggressive so I tried to act like I was pulling. I snatched it right off and Tom Brady’s arm was right there and I went for the ball.”
Barnett landed on it in what will go down as one of the most memorable plays in Philadelphia history.
”BG made the play to win it,” Barnett said. ”It was a good bounce. Right into my hands.”
The fumble set up a field goal that gave the Eagles an eight-point lead and then the game ended when Brady’s desperation heave for Gronkowski in the end zone fell to the turf, sending green and white confetti to the field, emotional Eagles pouring out on the field and Brady on the ground in frustration.
The Eagles defense had offered little resistance for the first 57 minutes as the Patriots moved the ball on every drive, getting stopped only on a missed field goal by Stephen Gostkowski and a failed fourth-down attempt one play after Brady dropped a pass from Danny Amendola on a trick play.
But the Patriots had scored three straight touchdowns to open the second half to take their first lead of the game at 33-32 and still were in position to win after Nick Foles gave the Eagles a 38-33 lead on a TD pass to Zach Ertz.
”We stuck together,” defensive lineman Fletcher Cox said. ”Nobody panicked. We knew what we had to do to stop him. We knew it would come down to a couple of plays. We’ve been through the situation before. Guys just stepped up and make plays.”
Graham was the one who delivered, providing a defensive exclamation point in a game that featured a record 1,151 yards of offense by both teams, including 613 for the Patriots.
”They made one good play at the right time,” Brady said.

Jose Altuve was more than due when he came to bat in the 10th inning Marshall Newhouse Color Rush Jersey , and got a winning rally started for the Houston Astros.
”He hadn’t gotten a hit in four at-bats,” manager A.J. Hinch said of the second basemen who led the American League in hits each of the past four seasons and is the MLB leader so far this year.
Altuve was actually in an 0-for-13 slide before his fifth at-bat Wednesday night against the Texas Rangers. His 115th hit of the season was a one-out single off Chris Martin, who then hit Yuli Gurriel with a pitch before an errant pickoff throw allowed both runners to move up. That set up Evan Gattis‘ tiebreaking sacrifice fly in a 5-4 victory.
Gurriel homered, doubled and scored twice as the Astros overcame an early four-run deficit. His fifth homer, leading off the fifth against starter Mike Minor, tied the game at 4.
Josh Reddick also went deep for the Astros, who their eighth consecutive road game against Texas and are a majors-best 32-14 on the road this season. The Astros have a 12-4 advantage in the season series between the instate division rivals that has only a three-game set remaining in Houston later this month.
Shin-Soo Choo homered and had a single to extend his on-base streak to 44 games, the longest in his career and in the majors this season. That matches Otis Nixon’s streak in 1995 for the Rangers, and trails only Julio Franco’s 46-gamer in 1993 for the team record.
Texas led 4-0 after Choo’s one-out solo homer started a three-run outburst in the third off starter Gerrit Cole.
Collin McHugh (4-0), who won 48 games as a starter for the Astros the past four seasons, allowed only one hit over three scoreless innings. Ken Giles worked the 10th for his 12th save in 12 chances.
”You’re talking about a 19-game winner in the big leagues. Those don’t grow on trees,” said Astros reliever Will Harris, who worked out of a jam in the sixth before McHugh took over. ”He goes out there and he knows who he is. He mixes it up, he’s a strike thrower and he’s a fearless guy out there.”
The start of the game was delayed for a few minutes after Minor had issues with the mound during warmups. The ground crew came out to work on the slippery dirt. Cole also was unhappy with the mound. Martin (1-2) slipped and fell down when throwing the pitch that hit Gurriel. The Rangers said afterward that Martin was being evaluated for a left groin issue.
”The mound early seemed to be slick,” Rangers manager Jeff Banister said.
The Astros have homered in 24 consecutive road games http://www.officialsenators.com/authenti...man-jersey , three short of the MLB record set by the Oakland Athletics earlier this season. Baltimore also went deep in 24 consecutive road games in 1996.
Cole, who threw 108 pitches to get through five innings, struck out seven to increase his season total to 158. The only Astros pitcher with more strikeouts before the All-Star break is Mike Scott, with 167 in 22 starts in 1986. Cole has made 18 starts, with two more scheduled before the break. … In four starts against Texas this season, Cole has 40 strikeouts in 25 innings.
Minor retired the first 19 San Diego batters he faced in his previous start a week earlier. The lefty allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings against Houston with four strikeouts and three walks.
”Probably not as sharp as he’s been,” Banister said. ”Looked like they were sitting on slider.”
Astros: Hinch said C Max Stassi was feeling better than expected after getting hit by a pitch on his right (throwing) wrist in the first inning Tuesday, on the same day starting catcher Brian McCann had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
Rangers: 3B Adrian Beltre, baseball’s active career hits leader (3,108), was scratched from the lineup about an hour before the game because of an infected tooth. He had a root canal and then traveled with the team to Detroit. … RHP Tony Barnette went on the 10-day disabled list. An MRI revealed a strained lat that will keep him from throwing for at least four weeks. He left Tuesday night’s game in the middle of a batter.
Astros: Justin Verlander (9-4), who has lost his last two starts, is on the mound when the Astros return home for the opener Thursday night of a four-game series against the Chicago White Sox.
Rangers: The Rangers open a 10-game, 11-day trip that will take them to the All-Star break when they play Thursday night at Detroit. Texas also plays at Boston and Baltimore before their next home game July 20.

Eduardo Escobar T.J. Yeldon Jersey , yet again, gave the Minnesota Twins the go-ahead hit.
Two of them, of course. He’s become a doubles machine.
With a two-base hit that drove in two runs off Chris Sale in the sixth inning and another that launched a four-run eighth, Escobar led for the Twins to a 6-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.
”I don’t know if he can keep up that kind of torrid pace, but we’re seeing a guy who is supremely confident,” Twins manager Paul Molitor said.
Robby Scott (0-1), just recalled from Triple-A, relieved Sale to start the eighth and walked the first two batters. Joe Kelly entered, and Escobar’s one-out line drive bounced in front of Jackie Bradley Jr. and skipped past the center fielder as two runs scored. The official scorer later changed his ruling from a single to a double, giving Escobar a majors-leading 32 for the season. Robbie Grossman broke the game open with a two-run triple.
Escobar is on a season-long pace for 75 doubles, which would blow by Earl Webb’s record of 67 doubles in 1931 for the Red Sox.
”Let me tell you: If they don’t catch the ball I’m going to run to second base, 100 percent,” Escobar said. ”My mentality when I make contact with the ball is to run all the way to second base.”
Escobar, who will be a free agent in the fall, has for the fourth straight season been slated for a utility role only to hit his way into regular duty after a setback in the infield. This year, injury and ineffectiveness for third baseman Miguel Sano paved Escobar’s way into the everyday lineup.
”If he doesn’t have a double a day, it’s like a disappointment right now. He’s unbelievable. He always finds a barrel,” said teammate Trevor Hildenberger, who struck out American League RBI leader J.D. Martinez with runners at second and third to end the seventh after relieving Jose Berrios.
The Red Sox went 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.
”Whenever you have a chance, you have to catch him,” Boston manager Alex Cora said.
The late surge masked a classic pitching duel between Sale and Berrios, the six-time All-Star against the budding ace. Sale retired the first 14 batters he faced before Ehire Adrianza’s soft roller to Rafael Devers at third base went for an infield single.
With a two-out home run by Devers in the sixth off Berrios, the Red Sox were in control. All it took was a single by Ryan LaMarre and a hit by pitch for Joe Mauer, though, to start a rally in the bottom of the inning. With one out Pernell McPhee Color Rush Jersey , Escobar drove a 1-1 slider near the dirt from Sale down the left-field line for a 2-1 lead. Escobar pumped his arms back and forth before clapping and pointing at his teammates in the dugout.
”You know this guy. Every pitch is nasty,” said Escobar, once a minor league teammate of Sale’s in the Chicago White Sox system. ”I guess I made good contact.”
Sale finished seven innings, the 12th time in 16 starts this season he has logged at least six. This was the 11th turn in which he’s yielded two runs or fewer and his fifth double-digit strikeout performance. In his last three starts, he has allowed only 11 hits in 21 innings. Yet the Red Sox are only 8-8 with him on the mound.
”I’m not going to hang my head about it. I know these guys in here want to win. I know they’re not doing anything different on my day,” Sale said. ”Maybe I’ll bring popsicles or something for the boys.”
Struggling Twins right-hander Addison Reed, who has appeared in only one of the previous six games, has been at least temporarily removed from his setup role. Zach Duke (3-2) took the eighth inning instead and, with two outs, surrendered Sandy Leon’s tying single that drove in Devers.
Red Sox: 2B Dustin Pedroia, who has played in only three games this season because of inflammation in his left knee, has still not been cleared for baseball activities since returning to the DL three weeks ago. The lack of progress has been concerning, Cora acknowledged. ”It was major surgery. We didn’t know what to expect. So we are where we are now, hoping that, yeah, he’ll be back. When? We don’t know,” Cora said.
Twins: RHP Ervin Santana, yet to appear this season because of a slow recovery from surgery on his middle finger, threw a 35-pitch bullpen session before the game. He’ll face live hitters on Friday, another step forward after his setback last month.
Red Sox: LHP David Price (8-4, 3.76 ERA) pitches Wednesday night. He is 6-0 in his last seven starts, with two runs or fewer allowed in all but one of those, when he gave up three runs. Price is 10-3 with a 2.52 ERA in his career against the Twins.
Twins: RHP Lance Lynn (4-5, 4.98 ERA) takes the mound in the middle game of the series. He’s 3-1 with a 2.01 ERA over his last five turns, with a .195 batting average against him and 30 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings.

The Detroit Tigers will look for their third consecutive victory as they open an eight-game road trip Friday night against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.
Detroit (33-37) is coming off back-to-back wins against the Minnesota Twins as it remains within striking distance of the Cleveland Indians for first place in the American League Central division. The Tigers have scored four-plus runs in four of their last seven contests.
The team’s success at the plate has come despite the loss of star slugger Miguel Cabrera Russell Bodine Color Rush Jersey , who will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his biceps tendon. The 35-year-old performed well against Chicago with a .297 lifetime average to go along with 34 home runs and 108 RBIs in 175 games.
Minus Cabrera, the Tigers are forced to rely upon less proven players such as JaCoby Jones, who belted a two-run home run on Thursday afternoon that helped his team secure a series victory. Jones is hitting only .222 this season with five home runs and 18 RBIs.
“He’s a really good baseball player,” Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said to the Detroit Free Press. “He brings a lot to the table. Yeah, he could get sent down sometime if he went 0-for-the-next-150, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
“I love the kid. … But ultimately, he’s going to have to dig his way out of it, and (Thursday) was a start. He hit a home run, that’s confidence — and now, hopefully, he’ll build from there.”
Chicago (24-43) also has gained confidence recently despite a difficult start to the season. The White Sox have won or split each of their past four series, including a 2-2 series tie against the Indians this week.
The White Sox will turn to right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (2-4, 3.26 ERA), who will make his 14th start of the season. The 24-year-old has posted back-to-back quality starts and earned a victory in his most recent appearance Sunday as he limited the Boston Red Sox to two runs (one earned) in 6 1/3 innings.
In three career starts against the Tigers, Lopez is 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA. He has not allowed a home run in 21 innings, but control has proved to be an issue as he has walked 10 and struck out nine during those three starts.
Lopez is enthused by the recent success of him and his teammates.
“When you as a team can do the little things and can work as a team with all the parts integrated, you will have good results,” Lopez said to the Chicago Tribune. “And that’s what we’ve been doing the last couple of weeks.”
The Tigers are determined to disrupt the recent comfort level of the White Sox.
Detroit right-hander Mike Fiers (5-3, 4.01 ERA) will make his 13th start. He has not lost since May 19 against the Seattle Mariners, and he is coming off an impressive outing in which he limited Cleveland to one run on five hits in seven innings.
Fiers, 32, is 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA in five career starts against the White Sox. He has walked eight and struck out 28 in 31 1/3 innings.
Chicago is 12-21 at home this season. Detroit is 10-20 on the road.

Blaine Hardy was supposed to be a short-term starter while injured Tigers pitchers recovered.
A string of solid outings by the veteran left-hander A. J. Cann Jersey , though, has Detroit management reconsidering that plan.
Nicholas Castellanos homered and Hardy pitched one-run ball into the sixth, leading the Tigers over the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on Sunday for their fifth straight win.
Hardy (3-1) allowed one run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He has given up two runs or less in six of his seven starts – the first starts of his five-year career.
Manager Ron Gardenhire said he’s considering a six-man rotation when Francisco Liriano returns from the disabled list – a week after dismissing that as an option.
”We got some guys in there who might need extra days that could probably use it,” Gardenhire said. ”We started thinking we could probably do this with some of these guys, give them a breather going into All-Star break.”
Hardy said he won’t be sweating out a decision.
”I’ve really gone start to start from the get-go,” he said. ”Even if they tell me I’m in the rotation for the rest of the year, I’m probably going to do the same thing. You never know what’s going to happen.”
Jose Iglesias added an RBI single as Detroit improved to 8-1 against the White Sox this season Marqise Lee Jersey , including 6-0 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Castellanos homered twice on Saturday and connected again in his first at-bat Sunday. Before Saturday, he was mired in a 1-for-21 slump over the previous five games.
Matt Davidson hit his 12th homer and Kevan Smith had two hits for Chicago, which has dropped four straight.
James Shields (2-8) allowed three runs on six hits in six-plus innings. Shields walked Jeimer Candelario with one out in the first and Castellanos followed with a homer.
”I got behind in the count to Castellanos,” Shields said. ”I thought he just popped it up, but it ended up going over the fence. They’re hot right now.”
After Davidson’s solo homer in the second – his first since May 13 – Iglesias drove in Niko Goodrum in the fourth to make it 3-1.
The temperature at the start was 92 degrees and it rose a couple of degrees from there.
”The only place I’ve probably seen hotter weather is Texas,” Hardy said. ”It’s one of those things where you go out there and try to go as long as you can.”
With closer Shane Greene unavailable after pitching four straight days, Joe Jimenez struck out the side in the ninth for his second save.
”He’s been throwing really well as a setup guy whenever we put him in Telvin Smith Jersey ,” Gardenhire said. ”You can see the velocity. He’s a power guy and he’s confident now. He’s gotten over that I-don’t-want-to-make-a-mistake thing and he just attacks.”
Tigers: LHP Daniel Stumpf (ulnar nerve irritation) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
White Sox: RHP Miguel Gonzalez (rotator cuff inflammation) reported no problems following a 25-pitch session on Saturday. The plan is for him to throw another session – 25 pitches or more – during the three-game series at Cleveland.
Tigers: LHP Matthew Boyd (4-4, 3.23 ERA) starts the opener of a two-game series at Cincinnati on Tuesday night. RHP Sal Romano (3-7, 5.67) pitches for the Reds.
White Sox: RHP Dylan Covey (3-1, 2.29 ERA) takes the mound in the opener of a three-game series at Cleveland on Monday night. Covey is 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in his last three starts. RHP Trevor Bauer (5-5, 2.69) goes for the Indians.

Fans attending the Super Bowl in Minneapolis will have the chance to go through security screening off-site, and out of the elements.
NFL Chief Security Officer Cathy Lanier says this is the first time remote satellite checkpoints are being used for a Super Bowl, and she says it’s by far the easiest way to get to the game. Fans can be screened at the Mall of America Dante Fowler Jr Jersey , then take a light rail to U.S. Bank Stadium.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen says there’s no threat to the Super Bowl. But people will see more security.
Rick Thornton, special agent in charge with the FBI, says it is game time for law enforcement. He says authorities have planned for every scenario and are ready.

The Toronto Blue Jays have put pitchers Aaron Sanchez and Jaime Garcia on the 10-day disabled list.
The Blue Jays activated right-hander Marcus Stroman off the 10-day disabled list. He’d been out since May 8 with shoulder trouble.
Stroman was set to start Saturday night against the Los Angeles Angels. He is 0-5 with a 7.71 ERA.
Toronto also recalled left-handed reliever Tim Mayza from Triple-A Buffalo.
Sanchez sustained a right finger contusion prior to starting an 8-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday Myles Jack Jersey , giving up two runs in one inning before leaving the game. He is 3-5 with a 4.52 ERA.
Garcia is dealing with soreness in his left shoulder, manager John Gibbons said. Garcia is 0-6 in his last 10 starts and has not won since April 17.

CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs‘ starting pitchers may not be performing as consistent as they would like, but Joe Maddon’s offense is finding ways to make up for it.
Addison Russell’s grand slam helped bail out starter Mike Montgomery in Friday’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins. Now, as Tyler Chatwood takes the mound in Saturday’s matinee interleague game at Wrigley Field, the Cubs will push for their third straight victory after they rallied for their second consecutive come-from-behind win Friday at Wrigley Field.
Russell’s blast erased a three-run deficit en route to a 10-6 victory that included home runs by Jason Heyward Yannick Ngakoue Jersey , Ben Zobrist and Kyle Schwarber. The win came a day after the Cubs scored seven runs in the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The run support could be big for Chatwood, who has struggled throughout the season and will make his first start after being activated off the paternity list earlier this week. Chatwood told reporters Friday that he feels good and that he was able to come in and throw a bullpen session as he prepared for Saturday’s start.
He admitted the uncertainty of when his wife would give birth weighed on him in his last start. Chatwood (3-5, 3.95 ERA) has taken no-decisions in four of his past five starts but was effective in his most recent outing. Chatwood allowed a run and two hits in five innings against the Dodgers when he threw 101 pitches. He is 0-2 in three career starts against the Twins with a 6.91 ERA.
“Luckily, everything worked out,” Chatwood said Friday of the week’s events Carson Tinker Jersey , according to the Chicago Tribune. “Everybody’s good.”
Chatwood will start after the Cubs hoped Yu Darvish could return from a right triceps injury on Saturday. Darvish, who experienced pain in a bullpen session on Thursday, flew to Dallas for a second opinion. Tests showed he has a right elbow impingement and inflammation and will be re-evaluated in three to five days.
The Twins, who have lost six of their last eight games despite Joe Mauer’s five RBIs in Friday’s loss, will attempt to get back on track when left-hander Adalberto Mejia makes his first start of the season. Mejia Jermey Parnell Jersey , who went 4-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 21 starts last year, has spent the entire season in the minor leagues.
Mejia pitched well at Triple-A Rochester and struck out 50 and registered a 2.74 ERA in 49 1/3 innings. He has posted a 4-1 record in June with a 1.41 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 32 innings. Mejia will face the Cubs for the first time in his career.
The Twins announced this week that they would recall Mejia at a time that manager Paul Molitor said makes sense for everyone involved.
“The reports have been his command has been much better,” Molitor told reporters earlier this week, according to the team’s official website. “More efficient. His off-speed seems to be working. His changeup is the only pitch that’s been hot and cold. His fastball-slider command has been really good. He’s had a handful of good outings in a row. Efficient is good.”
